On siling pansigang

siling pansigang

siling pansigang

Would you believe minemeryenda ‘to ni tatay noong araw?

I tried to find out kung anong pepper variety siya, ‘yung eksaktong pangalan niya, pero nabigo ako. Kung may nakakaalam po sa inyo, paki-share lang dito sa kusina natin please.

All I know is kapamilya siya ng cayenne peppers, genus Capsicum, species C. annuum.

Some Pinoy cooking blogs call them finger chillies or  green chillies pero wala po akong makitang finger chillies  kahit  saan. There’s no such pepper plant (as far as I was able to find out) at sandamakmak na klase naman ang green chillies.

Jalapeño pepper, popular in world cuisines,  is named after the town of Xalapa in Veracruz,  Mexico. Likewise, the very hot Habaneros ay halaw ang pangalan sa La Habana, Cuba. At ang chipotle, na usong-uso sa Cali when I was there, are usually Jalapeños or any pepper fully ripened, then smoked. There is a specific name for each variety of  sili because it came from a particular plant or  place of origin.

Nabasa ko minsan sa Guiness Book of World Records ang Philippine siling labuyo as  the hottest pepper in the world.  But alas, Guiness Book did not call our sili any other name. It was clearly printed on the page “siling labuyo”. I suppose Pinoy cooks shouldn’t either.

I’ts kind of frustrating to read some local cook/bloggers calling one variety of sili any name they fancy based on the pepper’s color and shape. Wala ba siyang pangalan talaga? I know it’s being annoyingly makulit of me but GMD please. (I-Google Mo, Dude).

Puwede ring ako ang hindi marunong mag-research. If that’s the case, sorry po, my bad.

Mabuti pa ang maliit na siling labuyo, may sariling pangalan. We should also give this long green finger shaped pepper its own name instead of referring to it as “siling pang-sigang”,  Kawawa naman siya. Puwede na siguro ang ‘SIGANGERO”   Or SIGAÑERO para mas ethnic ang dating hehe 👿

    • Hello Maxi,

I checked it out. Mukhang sa cayenne nga tayo mapupunta ah. Kamukhang-kamukha eh no? Do you plant your own pepper?

      • yup I do! Wala kasi akong ibang diversion sa boredom ko, I only work 3 days a week, the rest wala na pwera lang going to the gym. I have variety of plants in my backyard, couple variety of tomatoes(plums, cherry, big boy etc..) and couple of peppers . My personal favorite is habaneros — it has the best kick!
